TypeScript has been growing in popularity over the years, and many big projects and frameworks have adopted it. However, recently there has been a backlash against TypeScript from some influential developers.
According to David Hansson, the creator of Ruby on Rails, TypeScript “pollutes the code with type gymnastics” and makes things that should be easy become hard thus he removed TypeScript from the upcoming version 8 of the Turbo framework.
Rich Harris, the founder of the Svelte UI framework, who confirmed that they are migrating from TypeScript to JSDoc, which is a way of documenting JavaScript code with comments. He said that TypeScript makes it difficult to debug and that they need “go to definition” to work properly.
Many such big projects plan to drop TypeScript in favor of plain JavaScript. There may be more in the future. So what does this mean for TypeScript? Is this the downfall of TypeScript?
